  12. Hiatal Hernia
    • Protusion of the stomach through diaphram into chest cavity.
    • Caused by congenital defect in the diaphragm.
  13. Celiac Sprue
    • Malabsorption disease with mucosal damage to small intestine.
    • Caused by glutem intolerence.
  14. Intussusception
    • Telescoping of one part of the intestine into another.
    • May be caused by tumors or polyps.
  15. Crohn disease
    Chronic inflamation of the ileum.
  16. Hirschsprung disease (megacolon)
    Chronic inflamation of the ileum.
  17. Appendicitis
    • Inflamation of the vermiform appendix.
    • Caused by blockage of appendix allowing bacteria to multiply.
  18. Ulcerative colitis
    Inflammation of the mucosa of colon and rectum.
  19. Diverticulitis
    • Inflamation of small out-patches in colon.
    • Caused by blockage causing bacteria to multiply.
  20. Volvulus
    • Colon twisting on itself.
    • Caused by abnormal embryonic development.
  21. Hemorrhoids
    • Dilated veins in rectum and anus.
    • Caused by blockage or pressure.
  22. Hepatitis A
    • Inflamation of the liver caused by viral infection.
    • Caused by drinking conataminated water,or eating contaminated shellfish.
  23. Hepatitis B
    • Inflamation of the liver caused by viral infection.
    • Transmitted through blood and body fluids.
  24. Hepititis C
    • Inflamation of the liver caused by viral infection.
    • Transmitted through infected blood.
  25. Pancreatitis
    • Inflammation of the pancreas.
    • Caused by excessive alcohol consumption or bile duct obstructed with gallstones.
  26. Cholecystitis
    • Inflamation of the gallbladder.
    • Caused by gallstone becoming lodged in cystic duct.
  27. Cholelithiasis
    Gallstones lodged in common bile duct.
