-The suffix -stomy, when used with a combining form for an organ, means an opening tot he outside of the body. A stoma is an opening between an organ and the surface of the body.

• -relate to cheek or teeth

-Odont/o also means tooth.

duodenum

• duodenal
• -the first part of the small intestine

intestines, usually small intestine

• enterocolitis
• -inflammation of the colon and small intestine.

• enteroenterostomy
• -to cut and connect two parts of intestine together.
• -New opening betw. two previously unconnected parts of the small intestine. This is an anastomosis, which is any surgical connection betw. two parts, susch as vessels, ducts, or bowel segments (ana = up, stom = opening, -sis = state of)

• mesentery
• -the lining membrane that hold the organs together.
• -Part of the double fold of peritoneum that stretches around the organs in the abdomen, the mesentery holds the organs in place. Literally, it lies in the middle (mes-) of the intestines, a membrane attaching the intestines to the muscles wall at the back of the abdomen.

• parenteral
• -injecting patient nutrition via the veins
• -Par (from para-) means apart from in this term. An intravenous line brings parenteral nutrition directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the intestinal tract (enteral nutrition). Parenteral injections may be subcutaneous or intramuscular as well.

• -The ileocecal valve is at the very end of the small intestine (ileum)
• -passage that prevents backward flow of material
• -allows materials to pass from ileum into large intestine

• ileitis
• -inflammation of the small intestine

• ileostomy
• -procedure to bring small intesting outside the body.

jejunum

• choledochojejunostomy
• -An anastomosis (surgical joining).
• -The surgical formation of a communication between the common bile duct and the jejunum.

• gastrojejunostomy
• -This is part of a gastric bypass procedure.
• -surgical creation of an anastomosis between the stomach and jejunum.
