CHAPTER 1 SUMMARY
- -flashback
- -gene goes back to devon to see 2 things: long white marble flight of stairs, tree (was smaller in relation to his growth)
- -skip dinner to jump off the tree

CHAPTER 2 SUMMARY
- -mr prud'homme asks finny why they were late and he makes up a great excuse (can get away with anything).
- -finny says it was to get ready for the war in case they lowered the draft age to 17
- -prude'homme lets it slip
- -teachers show more tolerance at the summer session because its their last year to have fun before they got pulled to war
- -finny wears a pink shirt as an emblem because they had no flag (anyone else wouldve gotten made fun of) he also wears a devon tie as a belt because it tied the outfit together and it showed devon was involved (war)
- -Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session-club that met daily to jump off the tree
- -gene jumps and almost falls but finny saves him

CHAPTER 3 SUMMARY
- -gene realizes he wouldnt have been on the tree if it wasnt for finny so he doesnt feel gratitude for him.
- -summer sessions were to keep up with the pace of the war (so they could learn more before leaving)
- -blitzkriegball: game finny makes up, made up rules as played, everyone for themselves.
- -blitzkrieg:quick attack but they know its coming
- -finny beats hopkins parkers record (w/o training) just to see if he could do it and tells gene to keep it to themselves he says the real swimming is in the ocean anyways so they go

CHAPTER 4 SUMMARY
- -they wake up at the beach and the mood is sad, gray sky etc.
- -finny wakes up and they get back to devon just in time for genes test (which he fails)
- -gene begins to think finny only made him do stuff to take his time from studying away so he can be the best at sports and be the smartest
- -finny tells gene to go see leper jump off the tree with him and gene freaks out on him telling him he needs to study, finny takes it easy and says its ok and gene says nevermind
- -gene and finny double jump and gene makes finny fall of the tree resulting in serious injuries
