- "Light" - Layer appears translucent (Fresh)

- Numerous Cells 2nd Most Deep Layer
- Appear Star-shaped or "Spiny"
- Joined at junctions called DESMOSOMES

- Protein
- Tough Material
- Protects Lower Layers
Epidermis
- Upper Layer (Divided Into STRATA(UM))
- NO Blood Vessels (but nourished by Dermis)
- Keratinized Stratified Squamous Epithelium
Melanocytes
- Stratum Basale
- Produce Melanin (Brown Pigments)
- Protects S. Basale From Ultraviolet Light
- Everyone Has same amount of MelanOCYTES -
- but amount of MelanIN produced varies
