    representation by the population in the house and by equality (same votes per state) in the Senate
  3. seperation of powers
    • - no branch has all the power
    • - legislative makes the laws
    • - executive enforce the laws
    • -judical interprets the laws
  4. checks and balances
    each branch has powers to control the other so that no one becomes to powerful
