# Functions and Relations Vocabulary

 The collection of all items not in a set. Complement A member or item in a set. Element A rule of matching elements of two sets of numbers in which an input value from the first set has only one output value in the second set. Function The set of all elements contained in all of the given sets Intersection A subset which has no elements; also called the “empty set.” Null Set A subset that does not contain every element of the parent set. Proper Subset A rule that gives an output number for every valid input number. Relation A collection of numbers, geometric figures, letters, or other objects that have some characteristic in common. Set A collection of items drawn entirely from a single set. Subset The set of all elements that belong to at least one of the given two or more sets. Union A picture that illustrates the relationship between two or more sets.
