Check the tubing for anything that could interfere with flow

check the pump settings

- Inspect the site for
- -swelling
- -leakage
- -coolness
- -pallor
- which may indicate INFILTRATION. Ask the Pt if there is any pain/discomfort.
- If so, notify the charge nurse.

step 4
- Inspect the site for redness, swelling & heat. Palpate for induration (small area of swelling). Ask the pt if ther is any pain. These finding may indicate phlebitis
- If so, notify the charge nurse.

Step 5
- Inspect the site for pus and redness, warmth, induration (small area of swelling) and pain which may indicate local infection.
- If so, notify the charge nurse.
