PMP - Time Management

  1. Name three categories of dependencies used in activity sequencing
    • 1. Mandatory / hard logic
    • 2. Discretionary / preferred, preferential or soft logic
    • 3. External
  2. Total Float v. Free Float
Total Float - the amount of time an activity can be delayed without affecting the project finish date

Free Float - the amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the early start of any immediate successor activities
  3. Name and define each of the four types of dependencies or logical relationships used in activity sequencing
    • 1. Finish to start
    • 2. Finish to Finish
    • 3. Start to Start
    • 4. Start to Finish
  4. What are the differences between CPM and PERT
    • CPM = Critical Path Method
    • - uses a single duration estimate
    • - focus is on calculating float to determine schedule flexibility

    • PERT = Program Evaluation and Review Technique
    • - uses three time estimates to calculate a weighted average duration estimate
    • - allows calculation of variance so that it is possible to assess schedule risk
    • - uses a calculated expected value v. a single most likely estimate
