i taught that the way to end all pain was to end all desires

i believed in rule by force and fear

i taught that anyone, rich or poor, could escape the cycle of death and rebirth

i believed that if a person followed the 8fold path, he or she would attain nirvana

i believed that no one was to be trusted

i united northern india

i believed that life was endless sorrow

i wanted my descendants to be moral rulers

as a ruler, i accepted the religion of buddhism

i believed in nonviolence

i sent buddhist missionaries to neighboring lands

i believed in government spies

i used stone pillars to announce my policies
