    Is a straw-colored fluid that contains nutrients, hormones, and waste products
  9. Erythrocytes (eh-RITH-roh-sights)
    A mature red blood cells
  10. Prothrombin (proh-THROM-bin)
    The clotting proteins found in plasma
  11. Serum (SEER-um)
    Plasma with these clotting proteins removed
  12. Neutrophils (NEW-troh-fills)
    Are formed in red bone marrow, are the most common type of WBC
  13. Thrombocytes (THROM-boh-sights)
    The smallest formed elements of the blood
  14. Atheroma (ath-er-OH-mah)
    A deposit of fatty plaque within the arterial wall
  15. Ischemia (iss-KEE-mee-ah)
    A temporary deficiency in blood supply due to either the constriction or the obstruction of a blood vessel
  16. Angina Pectoris (an-JIGH-nah PECK-toh-riss)
    Episodes of severe chest pain due to inadequate blood flow to the myocardium
  17. Cardiomegaly (kar-dee-oh-MEG-ah-lee)
    The abnormal enlargement of the heart
  18. Myocarditis (my-oh-kar-DYE-tis)
    An inflammation of the myocardium
  19. Tachycardia (tack-ee-KAR-dee-ah)
    An abnormally rapid heartbeat
  20. Prolapse
    The falling or dropping down of an organ or internal part
  21. Septicemia (sep-tih-SEE-mee-ah)
    A systemic disease caused by the spread of microorganisms and their toxins via the circulating blood
  22. Homocysteine (hoh-moh-SIS-teen)
    An amino acid normally found in the blood and used by the body to build and maintain tissues.
  23. Cholesterol (koh-LES-ter-ol)
    A waxy fat like substance that travels in the blood in packages called lipoproteins.
  24. Vasodilator (vas-oh-dye-LAYT-or)
    Dilates the blood vessels
  25. Valvoplasty (VAL-voh-plas-tee)
    The surgical repair or replacement of a heart valve
