    • Intermediate-acting, synthetic adrenal corticosteroid.
    • Decreases inflammation by reversing increased capillary permeability
    • Suppresses migration of leukocytes and fibroblasts to the site of injury.
    • Stabilizes lysosomes
  3. Indications
    • Severe asthma
    • Anaphylaxis
    • COPD
  4. Contraindications
    None in anaphylaxis
  5. Precautions
    • Patients with peptic ulcer disease
    • CHF
    • TB
  6. Side Effects
    • HTN
    • CHF
    • Delayed wound healing
    • Hyperglycemia
    • Hypokalemia
    • Headache
    • Peptic ulcer
    • Circulatory collapse
    • N/V
    • CNS depression
  7. Interactions
    Use with caution in pts on salicylates, phenytoin, rifampin, theophylline, furosemide, thiazide diuretics
  8. Dosage and Route
    • Adult: 125-250 mg IVP/IM
    • Pedi: 1 mg/kg IVP
