Mechanism of Action
Intermediate-acting, synthetic adrenal corticosteroid.
Decreases inflammation by reversing increased capillary permeability
Suppresses migration of leukocytes and fibroblasts to the site of injury.
Stabilizes lysosomes
Indications
Severe asthma
Anaphylaxis
COPD
Contraindications
None in anaphylaxis
Precautions
Patients with peptic ulcer disease
CHF
TB

Delayed wound healing
Hyperglycemia
Hypokalemia
Headache
Peptic ulcer
Circulatory collapse
N/V
CNS depression
Interactions
Use with caution in pts on salicylates, phenytoin, rifampin, theophylline, furosemide, thiazide diuretics

Adult
: 125-250 mg IVP/IM

: 1 mg/kg IVP
