  1. Chamber or Intermittent
    Definition - admin of a med or IV fluid over >5min

    Sites - IV tubing, minibag, syringe pump
  2. Rapid Direct (aka IV push)
    Definition - administration of meds over 10-60 seconds

    Sites - an injection site adjacent to the needle/cathetar, or directly into a vein (i.e. as close as possible to the IV cathetar)
  3. Direct IV
    Definition - administration of a med or IV fluid over 1-5 minutes

    Sites - an injection site adjacent to the needle/catheter, or directly into a vein (i.e. as close as possible to the IV catheter)
  4. Continuous Infusions
    Definition - medication or IV fluid at a constant rate

    • - usually prepared in pharmacy
    • - may come w/ overfill to prime administration tubing
    • - req an infusion pump programmed in mls/hr
