ARTICLE I is as follows...
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard mycountry and our way of life. I am prepared to give up mylife in their defense.

ARTICLE II is as follows..
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command,I will never surrender the members of my command whilethey still have the means to resist.

ARTICLE III is as follows
If I am captured I will continue to resist by all meansavailable. I will make every effort to escape and aid othersto escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favorsfrom the enemy.

ARTICLE IV is as follows...
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with myfellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part inany action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I amsenior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawfulorder of those appointed over me and will back them up inevery way.

ARTICLE V is as follows...
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I amrequired to give name, rank, service number, and date ofbirth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmostof my ability. I will make no oral or written statementsdisloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to theircause.

I will never forget that I am an American, fighting forfreedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to theprinciples which made my country free. I will trust in myGod and in the United States of America.
