    They do not cross the placenta

    To stabilize the blood pressure
  5. What advantages of an epidural?
    • Indefinite duration
    • Titratable
    • Can be PCA
  6. What are disadvantages of an epidural?
    • Risk of hypotension
    • Risk of fetal bradycardia
    • Possible headache from spinal fluid leakage
  7. What should the nurse do if the mother is experiencing hypotension?
    • Position on the left side
    • IV fluids
    • Monitor BP
    • O2 if fetal bradycardia
    • Ephedrine from anesthesia
