- Palm-Greater Trochanter, Thumb-Pointed anterior, Indexfinger-Pointed to anterior-superior illiac spine.
- Site used Irrigating, viscous, or oily solutions; and depot formulations.

Dorsogluteal Muscle
- Type:Intramuscular IM
- Faster then SQ
- Degree: 72-90 degree insertion
- Needle: 18-23 G
- Skin stretched flat between 2 fingers and held tight for insertion; or use Z-track
- Aspirate slowly (5 sec)
- Inject slow (10 sec/mL)
- Apply gental pressure on site with dry gauze. Do Not Rub/Massage site

Vastus Lateralis Muscle
- Type: IM
- Faster then SQ
- Degree: 72-90
- Needle: 18-23 G
- Volume: 1-5 mL
- Skin stretched flat between 2 fingers and held tight for insertion; or use Z-track
- Aspirate slowly (5 sec) Inject slow (10 sec/mL)
- Apply gental pressure on site with dry gauze. Do Not Rub/Massage site

Subcutanious
- Needle:25-30 gauge , 3/8"- 1" (3/8"-5/8" most common): depending on size/weight of pt.
- Angle: 45-90 degree on insertion
- Abdomin, arms, thighs, upper ventral or dorsogluteal areas: (fastest - slowest absorbtion)
- Pinch/bunch skin-inject needle-release skin-push medication (10 sec/mL)
- No more then 1 mL at a time
- Aspiration is not necessary

Indermal: ID
Intradermal
- Type: ID
- Area: Inner aspect of fore arm
- Used for sensitivity tests
- Use a TB syring: 1/4-5/8", 26-27 gauge
- Bevel up
- 10-15 degree insertion: insert until bevel is covered (1/8")
- Inject slowly until blister/wheal forms
- Do Not Rub/massage site

Z Track Method
Z-Track injection
- Recommended for IM injection. Helps prevent solution from escaping from muscle tissue.
- 1) Move skin to one side
- 2) Insert needle 90 degrees and aspirate for blood
- 3) Displace tissue is allowed to return to normal immediatly after needle is withdrawn.
- 4)Apply gental pressure on site with dry gauze. Do Not Rub/Massage site.
