flat line
this is a SINGLE LINE that is used as the main number at times or a private back office line and fax lines, alarm lines and you can have multiple flat lines on one account

trunk (voice lines)
trunks are single voice lines that will display only the main BTN number no matter how many trunks are assigned to the hunt group. there are TWO WAY trunks (can receive and make out bound calls), also DID trunks (only receive calls), DOD trunks (only make outbound calls). CUSTOMERS MUST HAVE A TRUNK CARD IN THEIR PHONE SYSTEM TO MAKE IT WORK.

T1
Digital interface connection that can carry up to 24 lines or 64kbps. there are several types of T1\'s; two way voice T1 (no called ID), DOD, DID, integrated T1 with voice and data, PRI and data T1 (1.544mbps), customer must have a T1 card in their phone system to make it work

DOD
DIRECT OUTWARD DIAL - voice option that only has one function: to make outbound calls only (can not receive calls)

DID Number
DIRECT INWARD DIAL - option that will allow a business to assign a block of phone numbers to ring into a voice channel on a PRI or Trunk line for example: you can have a block of 100 DID numbers ring into one voice channel, but that\'s all the calls that can be received if another DID number from the block of 100 numbers are called, the caller would receive a busy tone.

Voice T1
a two way voice only T1 with no caller ID options also can go up to 24 voice channels.

PBX (phone system)
type of phone system that many businesses have and the cards used for voice can be analog, Trunks, Voice T1, and PRI. you must ask customer the type in order to determine the product needed for their phone system.

POT's
plain old telephone service - this is your common phone line installed at most homes and businesses.

Analog line
this is the same as POT's lines, just a different term

BTN
BILLING TELEPHONE NUMBER - every account has one primary number that is advertised or made public. this is known as the btn. the customer can advertise multiple numbers, but they will still only have one primary number per account

WTN
WORKING TELEPHONE NUMBER - refers to all other numbers in the account where btn is.

PRI (T1)
PRIMARY RATE INTERFACE - This is a voice T1 that has up to 23 voice channels that can also provide two way calling, caller ID and DID numbers. the other channel is used for transmitting caller caller information like caller ID across to the CPE.

INTEGRATED T1
circuits that can be used as a voice T1 (PRI) and also internet access T1. The channels are assigned to how many voice lines are needed and the remaining channels are assigned for internet use.

DSL
DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LOOP used to provide internet access to a customer. the bandwidth is dependant on the distance from the CO to the customer. the download speed is faster than the upload.

Data T1 (Internet T1)
this is a T1 that is only used for internet access (bandwidth is 1.544 mbps). this is dedicated bandwidth that will send and receive at the same speed (used when customers have servers and large send files).

D-mark
where AT&T service stops and the customer becomes responsible for any wiring at that point

CPE
CUSTOMER PREMISE EQUIPMENT - Customer phone system.

Modem
device used to interface between a computer and the DSL signal. can not be programmed.

Router
used the same way as a modem but has more features and can be programmed, options can be used to connect a Data T1 to a network.

Hunting Line
also known as ROLL OVER, meaning, if you have more than one line and that main line is busy then the added calling feature hunt or roll over can be added to the customers service and the call would ring on the next available line if it wasn\'t busy and continue to roll to the next available line till someone answered, or it would ring busy if all the lines in the roll over group were busy.
