Chemistry final part 2

  1. Amplitude
wave's height from zero to the crest.
  2. Wavelength
    distance between the crests
  3. frequency
number of wave cycles to pass a given point per unit of time
  4. hertz (Hz)
SI unit of cycles per second for frequency
  5. Electromagnetic radiationk
radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, visible light, ultraviolet waves, X-rays, and gamma rays.
  6. spectrum
when sunlight passes through a prism, the different frequencies separate into this. the colors blend. (i.e. rainbows)
  7. atomic emission spectrum
Like an spectrum but each color is defined in one line.
  8. ground state
When an electron has its lowest possible energy.
  9. Fission
The splitting of a nucleus into smaller fragments
  10. fussion
When nuclei combine to produce a nucleus of greater mass.
  11. Physical property
a quality or condition of a substance that can be observed or measured without changing the substance's composition.
  12. physical change
Some properties of a material change but the composition of the material does not change.
  13. chemical change
change that produces matter with a different composition than the original matter.
  14. scientific method
a logical, systematic approach to the solution of a scientific problem.
  15. theory
a well-tested explanation for a bread set of observations.
