Emergency Procedures

  1. Main Gearbox Failure Imminent
    • 1. Landing/Hover checklist- complete (200 ft checks at a minimum based on urgency.)
    • 2.Land/Ditch Immediately (power on)
  2. Main Gearbox FIRE
    • 1. Attempt to confirm presence of fire & alert crew.
    • 2. Landing/Hover checklist complete (200 ft checks at a min based on urgency.)
    • If fire CONFIRMED:
    • Land/Ditch Immediately
    • If fire NOT confirmed:
    • Land as soon as possible
  3. Engine Compartment Fire (in flight)
    • 1. Attempt to confirm presence of fire (alert crew)
    • 2. Establish single engine flight profile
    • If NOT Confirmed:
    • 3. Land as soon as practicable.
    • If CONFIRMED:
    • 3. Fadec controll switch off (affected engine)- confirm Idle, confirm off
    • 4.Emergency Fuel shutoff lever confirm off
    • 5. Boost pumps-(affected engine) off
    • 6. PRI Fire extinguisher button: confirm, push
    • 7. SEC fire exting button: confirm, push
    • 8. Landing/Hover checklist-complete 200' checks
    • If no longer evident :
    • 9. Engine shutdown complete
    • If FIRE still persists:
    • 9.Land/Ditch Immediately.
  4. Engine Compartment FIRE on DECK
    • 1. Attempt to confirm presence of fire (alert crew)
    • 2. Fadec control switches- BOTH OFF
    • 3. Emergency Fuel SHUTOFF levers- BOTH OFF
    • 4. Boost pumps- all off
    • IF Confirmed:
    • 5. PRI Fire extinguisher button (AE)- confirm, push
    • 6. SEC Fire exting button (AE)- confirm, push
    • 7. Emeregency Electrical cuttoff- OFF
    • 8. ROTOR brake- on
    • 9. Evacuate aircraft.
  5. Internal FIRE (cabin, electrical and/or avionics)
    • 1. Designate crewman to fight fire.
    • 2. Affected Equiptment- OFF
    • 3. Heat/Cool switches- OFF
    • 4. Ram air- CLOSED
    • 5. Cabin sliding door- closed
    • 6. Pilot's windows- closed
    • 7. Rack blower circuit breaker- PULL
    • 8. Circuit breakers- PULL for affected equiptment
    • 9. Landing/Hover checklist complete (200' checks at a min)
    • 10. Emergency Electrical cutoff- OFF
    • 11. Land/Ditch IMMEDIATELY.
    • If FIRE goes OUT.
    • 11. Land as soon as possible.
  6. Smoke & Fume Elimination
    • 1.Heat/cool switches- OFF
    • 2.RAM air - open
    • 3. Cabin Sliding Door- open
    • 4. Pilot's windows- open.
    • 5. Land as soon as practicable.
  7. Engine Post-Shutdown Fire
    • 1. Fadec control switches- check off.
    • 2. Boost Pumps- check off.
    • 3. Emergency Fuel shutoff lever- shut off (ensure 10 secs have elapsed prior to shutdown.)
    • 4. Crank button- Depress until TOT Decreases
    • 5. Emergency Electrical cutoff- OFF
    • 6. Rotor Brake- ON
    • 7. Evacuate Aircraft
  8. Engine Emergency IN-Flight-
    • 1. Nr- Maintain
    • 2. Airspeed/Altitude- control and set limits.
    • 3. Wheel/floats- as required
    • 4. Analyze
  9. Engine Chip Detected
    • 1. Complete the "BIG 4"
    • 2. Fadec control switch- confirm idle
    • 3. Engine- Monitor.
    • If abnormal indications:
    • 4. Engine shutdown procedure- complete
    • Normal indication:
    • 4. Land as soon as practicable
  10. N1 Divergence/ Partial Power Loss
    • 1. Complete the big 4
    • 2. Engine Parameters- Monitor
    • 3. Land as soon as practicable
  11. Major Fadec/ Govenor Failure
    • 1. Complete the "BIG 4"
    • 2. TRNG switch- FLTf
    • 3. Fadec Back-up switch - back up
    • 4. OEI- set as necessary
    • 5. Land as soon as practicable
  12. Minor Fadec/Governor Failure

    (gov caution light illuminated steady or flashing)
    1. Abort mission. Urgent mission may be completed
  13. Engine Oil Cooler Fan Failure
    • One Engine:
    • 1. Cruise airspeed: 75 KIAS min
    • 2. Fadec control switch- confirm idle
    • 3. Engine oil temperature- monitor
    • 4. Land as soon as practicable
    • Both Engines:
    • 1. Cruise airspeed: 120 KIAS min
    • 2. Land as soon as possible
    • 3. Shut down engines as soon as possible
  14. Lubrication system failure

    oil pressure below 25 psi
    • 1. Complete the "BIG 4"
    • 2. Engine shutdown procedure- complete
  15. AC System Failure
    (main ac bus short, alternator, ACU or 115/26 V ac failure)
    • 1. Flight Controls- Stabilize aircraft
    • 2. AC 26V XFER switch- push in the direction of the illuminated fail light.
    • 3. AFCS- Reengage
    • 4. If ECS Failed- cool switch- OFF
    • 5. Land as soon as possible.
  16. Battery Overtemp/ Thermal Runaway
    • 1. BATT Relay switches- BOTH OFF
    • 2. Land as soon as PRACTICABLE
    • after landing:
    • 3. allow batt to cool before removal
    • 4. secure & exit aircraft
    • 5. Standby with fire fighting equipment
  17. Wheels Fail to Extend

    amber light or absence of green light
    • 1. Landing gear indicator test.
    • If lights do not illuminate:
    • 2. Gear IND Circuit breakers- pull and reset
    • If lights do illuminate:
    • 2. Landing gear handle- UP then DOWN
    • 3. Landing gear handle- UP
    • 4. Gear CONT circuit breaker- Pull, reset
    • 5. Landing gear handle- down
    • 6. Safety pin- Install
    • 7. Continue flight as appropriate
    • (if failure persists & SEC HYD SYS low fluid level condition do not exist:
    • 8. Elec pump- activate (BKP position)
    • 9. Elec pump- OFF
    • 10. Continue Flight as appropriate
    • If failure persists
    • 11. Emergency Landing Gear extension handle- pull
    • If wheels fail to extendL
    • 12 Consider external activation of LG blow down
    • If wheels still fail:
    • 13 Consider use of external nitrogen canister via the landing gear nitrogen line T fitting
    • 14 Land as soon as practicable
  18. NoseWheel Shimmy Damper
    • 1. Lift aircraft off ground immediately or reduce taxi speed.
    • 2. Perform vertical take offs and landings
    • 3. Continue flight as appropriate.
  19. Wheels fail to RETRACT
    • 1. Landing gear Handle- Recycle
    • If persists:
    • 2. Landing gear Handle- Down
    • 3. Land
    • 4. Staighten nose wheel
    • After takeoff:
    • 5. Landing gear Handle- up
    • 6. Landing gear Handle- down
    • 7. continue flight as appropriate
  20. ECS Heater Overheat

    illumination of HEATER O HEAT
    • 1. Heat switch- OFF
    • 2. Heater nozzles- all open
    • IF light remains on:
    • 3. Land as soon as practicable.
    • If extinguishes:
    • 3. Continue flight as appropriate
