    Services such as social welfare that are provided to workers by their company

    Workers where being treated poorly in factories, low wages, hazard conditions and workplace bias.

    A philosopher who supported the idea of resisting metropolitan authority, but not trying to achieve total independence.

    A US president, founded the part that started the progressive movement
  6. Progressive Movement
    A movement aiming to prohibit child labor, give equal rights and create a national health program

    A term used by Karl Marx for the working class
  8. Bourgeoisie
    A term used by Karl Marx for capitalist, mainly the middle class,
  9. Hierarchy
    A system where people are ranked and higher ups get more rights/privileges.
  10. Egalitarian
    Relating to the idea that all humans deserve equal rights and opportunities
  11. Exploitation
    The abuse of workers during the industrial revolution. They received low pay for long hours as well as hazardous working conditions
  12. Classless Society
    A result of a truly communist society where everyone is equal and there is not divide between wage, gender or race.
  13. Marxism
    The theories and ideas of Karl Marx that follow the idea of communism. Still used today
  14. Karl Marx
    A co founder of communism. Believed everyone should be equal and work for the means of production. Wanted to violently overthrow capitalism via revolution as he believed this the only way to get rid of it.
  15. Luddites
    Groups of people who hated the new machines used in the industrial revolution and wanted to keep to the old ways.
  16. Suffragettes
    Women's rights groups who used extreme or violent means to protest rights and equality
  17. Robert Owen
    A social reformer and a co founder of Utopian Socialism. Believed that everyone should receive and education and safe working conditions. Pointed out that distress is caused by the competition of human labor with machinery and an ideal society has subordinated machines
  18. Utopian Socialism
    The vision of a utopian society where everyone is equal in needs and resources. The way this vision is achieved is through socialism
  19. Socialism
    An economic system characterized by collective ownership of the means of production.
  20. John Stuart Mill
    A philosopher who stressed the negative effects of capitalism (worker abuse). Made the harm principle, that one should be able to do whatever one wants as long as it does not hurt anyone else.
  21. The Invisible Hand
    The belief that unseen forces in economics determine the best value for labor and products, based on consumerism. Made by Adam Smith
  22. Laissez-Faire
    The practice of having little government involvement in capitalism or economics
  23. Adam Smith
    A philosopher who believed in Private Property and voluntary exchange, society benefits from individual needs being fulfilled.
  24. Classical Liberalism
    Values the individual rights and freedoms of one and their self interest. Includes economic freedom and private property which means limited government intervention.
  25. Industrial Revolution
    The major transition from making goods with hands to making goods with machines, traditional economies' shifted to factory work
