Coastal Geology

  1. Which is the only dipping that is more prone to erosion and weathering?
    Seaward
  2. Bedding
When the angle is either horizontal or vertical
  3. Dip
    The angle of a cliff.
  4. Planform
A category of structure concerning the makeup of the coastal landscape - how different bands of rock impact the shape of the coastline
  5. Secondary Permeability
Allows water into joins and bedding pores eg Limestone. Stores water in caves and create stalegmites.
  6. Primary Permeability
Eg Chalk has pores that let water into the structure of the rock itself. These can store water.
  7. Structure
The properties of the individual rock time, such as heading, faulting and jointing. It also includes the permeability of rock.
  8. Limestone's Ltihology
Due to Calcium Carbonate, it may be vulnerable to chemical weathering.
  9. Strong Lithology
eg Basalt. Have interlocking crystals which mean they can form prominent features like headlands.
  10. Weak Lithology
Eg clay. Vulnerable to erosion and may be vulnerable to weathering and mass movement. This is due to weak bonds between the particles.
  11. Structure
The properties of the individual rock type, eg beddomg, faulting and jointing. It also includes the permeability of the rock.
  12. Lithology
    Chemical composition of a rock.
