Dopamine/Intropin

  1. Class:
    Sympathomimetic
  2. Actions:
    • stimulate dopaminergic receptors
    • cardiac stimulant
    • increases cardiac output
    • peripheral vasoconstriction
  3. Indications:
    • Hypotension
    • Cardiogentic shock
  4. Contraindications:
    • Hypovolemic shock in which complete fluid resuscitation has not occurred
    • tachyarrhythmias
    • hypersensitivity
  5. Precautions:
    • V-fib
    • pregnancy
    • vascular diseases
  6. Side Effects:
    • Hypertension
    • palpations
    • headache
    • dyspnea
  7. Dosage:

    Route:
    2-5mg/kg/min increased as needed

    IV drip
