Undernourishment is when you have a calorie deficiency and Malnourishment is when you have an essential nutrient deficiency.
  2. What are vitamins and Minerals?
Vitamins are organic coenzymes and Minerals are inorganic cofactors
  3. What is ingestion, digestion, Absorption and egestion? What is the basic sequence of each?
    • Ingestion=Eating/consuming
    • Digestion=breaking down food
    • Absorbtion=cells take up small molecules
    • Egestion=Pooping/removal of undigested foods.
    • SEQ: Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, SI, LI, rectum, anus.
  4. What is mammalian digestion?
    • Peristaslisis: waves of contraction by smooth muscles
    • Sphinters: ring like wolves that regulate the passage of material
    • Accessory glands: Salvary glands, pancreas, liver, gall bladder. Organs not taking in food directly but still in the process.
  5. What is the oral cavity, pharynx and esphogus.
    • OC: Teeth and mouth, break down food. Make Amylase.

    • E: where the food travles down from. Peristalisis.
  6. What is the Stomach, (how it can break down) basic function where its located.
Connects esophogus and dueodenum SI. Stores and breaks down proteins. Uses muscle contraction and gastric gland. (Physical and chemcial)
  7. What do the gastric glands of the stomach realease + what are their functions.
    • Mucus: protect covering of the stomach from acids.
    • Hydrocolric acid HCL: Kills bacteria and activiates pepisn from pepinogen.
    • Pepsin: Enzyeme that digests proteins.
  8. What is the average PH of the stomach. How much can it hold and how long
    • 2-3
    • 1.5L and 2-6H
  9. What is the phyloric sphinter?
Controls the exit of the stomach into the duodenum of SI.
  10. what is a stomach ulcer?
Mucus lining breaks down and acid gets through, Histamine is realeased into blood flow.
