Ovaries
- hold and release eggs ( ovum known as one egg)
Oviducts
- also known as the fallopian tubes
- passageway for the ovum to move from the ovary to the uterus.
Uterus
- the womb
- site of implantation of a fertilized ovum, and where embryo, then fetus develops.
Vagina
- birth Canal ( 2nd name )
- The muscular canal extending from the uterus to the exterior of the body
- strongly acidic ( to kill invaders )

Ovulation = ovaries

Starts at puberty and ends at menopause
Ovaries in more detail
- site of oogenesis
- estrogen and progesterone production
- produces 1 egg inside the follicle
Oviducts( fallopian tubes)
- collects the egg at their finger like endings which are known as the fimbra and transport it inside the tubes for fertilization
Uterus
-Myometrium= muscular outer that pushes the baby out of the birth canal
- Endometrium = inner lining that provides nourishment for the developing embryo
- Uterus is separated from the vagina by the cervix
- endometrium and egg are shed if pregnancy does not occur
Flow phase
Day 1- 5
menstral cycle
- corpus letumn degeneration ( no estrogen or progesterone )
- endometrium and egg shedded
Follicular phase
- development of follicles in ovary
- estrogen produced thickening of endometrium
- day 6-13
Ovulation
Eggg burst from ovary
follicular cells turn into corpus lutenum
day 14
Secretory phase
- oocyte leaves the ovary into fallopian tube
- estrogen levels decline
- corpus lutenm forms
- produces progesterone that thickens the endrometrium
- days 15- 28
