What is the nervous system
The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to various parts of the body.
What does the nervous system include
The NS includes both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system
What is included in the CNS
Brain and spinal cord
What function has the CNS
Integrates, processes and coordinates sensory data and motor commands[Higher Functions]
what are higher functions
they are intelligence memory learning and emotion
What is the PNS
It is neural tissue outside CNS
What does the PNS do
It delivers info to the CNS
What is somatic nervous system
It is skeletal muscle voluntary- can control it [e.g you have control over your arm when you lift a glass]
what does automatic mean
outside your awareness[e.g placing hand on hot plate, you will remove it immediately]
what is automatic response called
reflex
what is the autonomic nervous system
it is the smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, cant control this
what are the two types of autonomic nervous systems
sympathetic and parasympathetic
what relation do sympathetic and parasympathetic have
they have opposite effectsÂ
[e.g sym increases heart rate and parasym decreases heart rate]
what are the two cell types in the nervous system
neurons and neuroglia
what are neuroglia
neuroglia are cells that support neurons
