Nervous system

  1. What is the nervous system
The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to various parts of the body.
  2. What does the nervous system include
The NS includes both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system
  3. What is included in the CNS
    Brain and spinal cord
  4. What function has the CNS
Integrates, processes and coordinates sensory data and motor commands[Higher Functions]
  5. what are higher functions
they are intelligence memory learning and emotion
  6. What is the PNS
It is neural tissue outside CNS
  7. What does the PNS do
It delivers info to the CNS
  8. What is somatic nervous system
It is skeletal muscle voluntary- can control it [e.g you have control over your arm when you lift a glass]
  9. what does automatic mean
outside your awareness[e.g placing hand on hot plate, you will remove it immediately]
  10. what is automatic response called
    reflex
  11. what is the autonomic nervous system
it is the smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, cant control this
  12. what are the two types of autonomic nervous systems
    sympathetic and parasympathetic
  13. what relation do sympathetic and parasympathetic have
    • they have opposite effects
    • [e.g sym increases heart rate and parasym decreases heart rate]
  14. what are the two cell types in the nervous system
    neurons and neuroglia
  15. what are neuroglia
neuroglia are cells that support neurons
