  1. Rankine Cycle with Open Feedwater Heater (mass fraction)
    (h1-h7)/(h4-h7)
  2. Rankine Cycle with Open Feedwater Heater (Wnet)
    m(h3-h4)+(1-a)m(h4-h5)+(1-a)m(h6-h7)+am(h1-h2)
  3. Otto Cycle
    • Use isentropic relations for volume, not pressure!
    • Temperature at State 3 found from using the heat added by combustion
    • Pressure then found at State 3 from ideal gas formula
  4. Diesel Cycle
    • From States 1 & 2 Otto Cycle & Diesel are the same
    • State 3 is found from Cp(h3-h2) since it is a constant pressure process
    • Then we can find the volume at State 3 in order to calculate the isentropic relations between State 3 & 4.
  5. Mean effective pressure (labeled as Peff)
    Peff=(v1-v2)/Wnet
