IT Fundamentals FC0-U61 Part 2

  1. Default Gateway
Is a device that connects a local network or device to the Internet and usually is a router or a network switch.
  2. DRAM
Dynamic RAM is a type of volatile memory that stores data in the form of electronic charges within transistors.
  3. Digital Signaling
Signaling using discrete states to represent simple values, such as 1 or 0.
  4. DIMM
Dual Inline Memory Module are the standard packaging for system memory.
  5. Embedded System
A computer system that is designed to perform a specific, dedicated function, such as a microcontroller in a medical drip or components in a control system managing a water treatment plant.
  6. Ethernet
A type of networking technology that is used to connect devices to a local area network (LAN).
  7. Encryption
Scrambling the characters used in a message so that the message can be seen but not understood or modified unless it can be deciphered
  8. Extranet
A network of semi-trusted hosts, typically representing business partners, suppliers, or customers.
  9. Fault Tolerance (Redundancy)
Protection against system failure by providing extra (redundant) capacity.
  10. Fax
Transferring an image of a document over a telephone line.
  11. Computer File
Data stored that containing either plain text or binary data.
  12. Computer File System
A method of organizing and storing files on a computer's storage device so that the operating system can keep track of each file.
  13. Firewall
Hardware or software that filters traffic passing into or out of a network
  14. Firmware aka ROM
Read-only memory for low-level functionality such as booting the system.
  15. Flash Memory
Flash RAM is similar to a ROM chip in that it retains information even when power is removed, but it adds flexibility in that it can be reprogrammed with new contents quickly, like USB drive.
  16. Float
Data type supporting storage of floating point numbers (decimal fractions).
  17. FQDN
Fully Qualified Domain Name is a name in DNS specifying a particular host within a subdomain within a top-level domain.
  18. Frame
A data structure that holds data in a structured format.
  19. Data Structure
A way of organizing and storing data in a computer so that it can be accessed and modified efficiently
  20. FSB
Frontside Bus. The bus between the CPU and the memory controller (system RAM).
