What does the AMS provide?
- ECS (Heating And cooling)
- Engine start
- Pressurization
- Engine and Wing Anti-Ice
- Water pressure
- Hot air leak detection
-
The pressurization system consists of ?
- Cabin outflow valve
- Static pressure port
- Negative pressure relief valve
- Positive pressure relief valve
- Cabin pressure controller
-
What provides air for the AMS?
- Engine bleeds
- APU bleed
- External pneumatic source
-
What is external pneumatic air used for?
- ECS on the ground
- Engine start on the ground
-
Where is the external ground source panel located?
Lower fairing between the wings
-
What is the primary use for the apu bleed air?
- ECS on the ground
- Engine start on the ground
- Assist with engine start ( below FL210 )
- Bleed source for pressurization, heating and cooling ( below 15,000 ft )
-
How many bleed regulating valves are in each engine?
2 ( one high stage and one low stage )
-
Where is the bleed air tapped from the engine?
- 6th and 10th stages
- The system alternates between the valves to regulate an adequate and safe pressure
-
How would an APU or Engine bleed button show a detected leak?
An amber light illuminates on the button
-
What does the overheat detection system observe?
- Engine bleeds, packs
- APU bleed
- Plumbing for the wing and engine anti ice system
- Trim air ( rear cabin temp control on certain Delta aircraft )
-
How many ECS packs are on the aircraft?
- 2 independent packs (Right and Left)
- Each engine provides bleed air to it’s respective pack
-
Can a single pack provide adequate temperature and pressure control?
Yes, up to FL310
-
What is the max alt for single pack operations?
FL310
-
Where do the packs distribute air to?
- Pack 1, Flight deck
- Pack 2, Main cabin
-
Can a single bleed source power both packs?
Yes, through a cross bleed valve
-
How many recirculation fans recirculate air back to the cabin and flight deck?
2
-
Which cargo bays have ventilation fans?
Fwd
-
What cargo compartment may we transport live animals? Why?
- Fwd
- It has air recirculation
-
Pushing out the RECIRCULATION button turns off?
Both recirculation fans
-
What keeps the 3 avionics bays cool?
- FWD and MID eBay (3 fans each pull air from cabin to bay)
- AFT eBay (Natural air flow from cabin to bay)
-
The AFT eBay has no fans, but is it cooled?
Yes, from air flowing from PAX cabin and is expelled toward the recirculation bay.
-
Where does the CPC get Landing field elevation?
FMS or manual control on the pressurization panel.
-
Can the APU bleed be used for the anti ice system?
No
-
What happens when the Xbleed on the panel is pushed out?
It manually closes the Xbleed valve
-
The Dump switch is used for?
- Emergency evacuation
- Fast cabin depressurization
- Smoke evacuation
-
What happens when the Dump button is pressed?
- Sets the ECS packs and recirculation fans to off
- Controls the outflow valve to maintain the cabin altitude rate of climb at 2000 ft per min up to 12,400 ft
- When the cabin alt reaches 12,400 ft it commands the outflow valve full closed
-
Will the dump button work when the pressurization switch is in the manual mode?
No, it only works in AUTO mode.
-
Does the DUMP button work in manual mode?
No, it only works in AUTO mode but the packs and the recirculation fans will shut down
-
Why does the DUMP button have a red-raised border around it?
So you can find it in low visibility conditions in the flight deck.
-
The outflow valve can be modulated in which 2 ways?
Automatically and manually
-
The MAN mode position allows manual control of:
The outflow valve
-
How can you determine the position of the outflow valve?
There is a pointer on the outflow valve position indicator on the environmental control system synoptic page on the MFD.
-
In the manual mode, will the cabin depressurize on landing?
No
-
What are the Down/Up positions used for on the Cabin Alt selector knob?
Manually opens and closes the outflow valve to decrease or increase cabin alt
-
What is the LFE ctrl selector position on the pressurization mode selector knob?
Allows for manual input on the landing field elevation
-
Is the pressurization system still in auto when the LFE is entered manually?
Yes
-
How would you manually control the LFE?
With the LFE selector knob momentarily selected to the Down / Up position, the LFE will decrease/increase in 100ft increments.
-
What color is the LFE on the EICAS?
- Green is FMS input
- Cyan is Manual I put
-
Where does the CPCS get cruise flight level and landing elevation?
- FMS before takeoff or CPCS calculates using ambient pressure
- LFE may be inputted manually
-
What does the ATTND position do on the PAX CABIN knob?
Switches over the cabin temp control to the FA control panel
-
How does the FA know if the temp setting knob allows them to adjust the temp?
An enabled LED turns on whenever the pilot selects the ATTND position on the flight deck.
-
What is the first thing that should be done after a decompression?
Don your Oxygen mask.
-
Memory items for Cabin Alt High
- Oxygen masks..... Verify......... ON, 100%
- Crew Comm. ..........................Establish
