Maintain RPM with collective or disc attitude
- #HIGH or LOW audio indications:
- low rotor RPM at ≤ 94 % (by WU)
- low rotor RPM at ≤ 94 % or nomin. NR --3 % (by AMC2)
- high rotor RPM at ≥ 109 % (by WU)
- high rotor RPM at ≥113 % (Cannot be ACK)
-
In flight:
- Audio
- Cancel upper modes
- 'Checklist' (For training no checklist)
- Lower collective slowly not below white line
- Select VMS page and apply small collective inputs to confirm bad engine via TQ values
- Select FADEC EMERG sw 'ON'
- Move FLI again to see if bad engine now governed by TOT/NR matching (Level 2)
- If it does then shallow approach with slow collective inputs on landing
- If it doesn't resolve (Level 3) set up for OEI and select ENG MAIN sw OFF on bad engine
- Note// Ensure you have OEI IAS and FLI when selecting OEI to prevent transient limits being breached
- OEI landing
Note: Do NOT go below de-synchro white line (Otherwise known as zero TQ line. Will lead to high NR.
-
On ground:
- Audio
- Both ENG MAIN sw - OFF
- Both FUEL PRIME PUMPS sw - OFF
-

-
- Checklist
- Affected GEN sw - OFF
- Elect load - reduce
- If caution disappears after 1 min:
- Cont flight
- If caution remains:
- OEI cond - Establish
- Affected ENG - ID and shutdown
- Land As Soon As Prac
-
What does it mean if you see this?
That ENG2 has had a fire detected, BOT2 fire bottle has been activated and BOT1 is still available.
-
Tail rotor drive shaft failure in hover?
- Landing attitude
- Lower collective
- Double engine shutdown once on ground
-
Tail rotor drive shaft failure in HIGH hover?
- Lower collective
- Fly away to the 9 o'clock
- Pump power to increase IAS and maintain height
- Increase IAS to above 70KIAS
See tail rotor drive shaft failure for landing profile.
-
OEI general principals?
- Cruise flight:
- Set OEI parameters
- Couple up
- CADDCA
- All other:
- Set FLI to blue line from memory
- Set attitude for profile req'd. Either:
- 1- Up to 20° ND if slow or zero airspeed
- 2- 5° ND if already faster than 10kts
- 3- Maintain GTC.H for VTOL aborts
- Fine tune FLI with collective beep (1 beep equals 1% NR)
- At 45kts set attitude to horizon line
- If climbing away set 2min OEI topping
- At Vy climb away and set MCP when clear of obstacles
- Complete sequence when safe
-
Yaw Control Emergencies?
- Fixed pitch or total loss of tail rotor authority:
- 70-O-M-A-C (Checks)
- As you make your way to a long finals, select 70kts for quick assessment of total or fixed. Easy if nose is already right at 70kts.
- 70kts and 300 feet above runway on long final for analysis if not total loss.
- Slow from 70, 60, 50, 40, etc... if you get to 40kts and now straight or left, then you can land on a long, suitable runway.
- If the nose is right above 40kts, then total failure or insufficient and set up for auto from 2000ft over runway.
Identify IAS, GS, and FLI at the slowest speed when the nose is close to straight. Add 15kts. This is your threshold speed.
- Fixed Pitch:
- You want wind from left.
- Identified speed per above @ 20ft over threshold.
- Slow down by 10s.
- The nose will come right as power is applied.
- Once the nose is straight, check FWD on attitude to maintain HDG straight and descend to touch-down.
- Keep power in and use raise right, lower left to keep straight.
- Freeze on cyclic.
- If it stays left with power, then you can hover, so keep applying power until the aircraft stops in hover and land.
- Total loss or insufficient:
- You want wind straight on or from right.
- Set up for AUTO 70kts 2000ft AGL over RWY.
- Once the target area passes top of coaming, commence descent with 0.5 FLI below white de-synch line @ 70kts. Lower collective until slight TQ split.
- SHED BUS sw OFF.
- Once committed, take both engines back to IDLE then OFF 1 at a time.
- @160ft AGL set 20deg NU.
- @50ft AGL set hover attitude.
- Cushion for landing.
-
Amber 'STARTER ON' during start:
About start.
It means GEN OVERHEAT but won't indicate overheat until start sequence finished and at IDLE.
-
OEI indications but no ENG FAIL on ML?
Could be an ENG OVERSPEED, but FADEC caught the engine before overspeed protection kicked in.
If FADEC doesn't catch overspeed, then normal ENG FAIL procedure.
- Symptoms are:
- OEI indications
- No ENG FAIL on ML
- N2 on affected engine high
- N2 indication on VMS Amber south no values
