  1. Apnea
    Respiration is suspended due to exposure to toxic vapors or chemical irritants
  2. Aspiration
    Most frequently affects only the right lung
  3. Asthma
    Respiratory passageways narrowed by bronchiolar spasms
  4. Bronchiolitis
    Caused by RSV, results in inflamed bronchiolar spasms
  5. Chronic bronchitis
    Results in increased mucus production, clogging respr. passageways and promoting coughing; origin may be bacterial or from smoking
  6. CO2 poisoning
    Produced by combustion reaction; results in hypoxia
  7. Cystic Fibrosis
    Inherited disorder resulting in increased production of thick mucus
  8. Diptheria
    Bacterial infection causing swelling of pharynx and larynx
  9. Emphysema
    Condition characterized by fibrosis of lung tissue and an increase in size of the alveolar chambers
  10. Pertussus
    Bacterial; produces uncontrolled coughing; vaccine exits (whooping cough)
  11. Pneumonia
    May be viral or bacterial, produced inflammation of lungs
  12. Pulmonary embolism
    Blood clot in the lungs
  13. RSV
    Virus which may cause pneumonia or bronchiolitis
  14. SIDS
    Unknown origins resulting in apnea in infants
  15. Tachypnea
    Unusually rapid respiration rate
  16. Tuberculosis
    Airborne bacterial origin; symptoms include fever, weakness, night sweats, coughing up blood
  17. Pulmonary edema
    Accumulation of fluid in the lungs resulting in reduced oxygenation of blood
  18. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI)-
    Often the common cold
  19. Laryngitis
    Inflammation of the larynx due to overuse, infection or irritants.
