-
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Brain & spinal cord. Not capable of regeneeration
-
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
All nerves outside and connecting to CNS
-
Functions:
Sensory-
A)
B)
- Sensory- Input
- A) Sensory Receptors detect environment changes inside & outside the body.
- B) Send nerve impulses via peripheral nerves to to the CNS
-
Functions:
Integrative
A)
B)
- A) Integration brings sensory information, memory, thoughts together.
- B) Conscious or subconscious decisions are made
-
Functions:
Response-
A)
B)
Response- Sent out by the CNS through peripheral neurons to effectors. Effectors respond. Effectors may be muscles of glands
- A) Somatic Nervous System- Consciously controlled effectors (skeletal muscles)
- B) Automatic Nervous System- Involuntary effectors (heart, smooth muscle, glands)
-
Tissue Types:
Connective
Blood, membranes
-
Tissue Types:
Nervous (2 types of cells)
- A) Neurons- Excitable nerve cells that transmit electrical signals.
- B) Neuroglia- Support cells that don't send electrical signals
