Decrease in an angle between two bones

Increase in an angle between two bones
Extension
Move body part toward the midline
Adduction
Move body part away from the midline
Abduction
Move body part horizontally through the transverse plane
Horizontal abduction/adduction
Move axial body part to the left or right

Turning or pivoting a body part around the center Axis “toward” the midline
Internal rotation
Turning or pivoting a body part around the center Axis “away” from the midline
External rotation
Multiple movements that turn/pivot the body part in a full circle. It can only occur at the hip and the shoulder

Push body part forward through the transverse plane
Protraction
Pull the body part back through the transverse plane
Retraction
Move body part superior
Elevation
Move body part inferior
Depression
Rotate forearm so palm faces anterior/upward (hold a bowl of soup)
Supination
Rotate forearm so palm faces posterior downward ( dribble basketball like a “pro”)
Pronation
Move sole of the foot inward towards the midline
Inversion
Move sole of the foot outward away from the midline
Eversion
Point toes forward as in tiptoes
Plantar flexion
Pull toes toward the shins
Dorsiflexion
Pinch grip with thumb
