Gastric acidifiers/Digestive enzymes/and other

  1. L-Glutamic acid HCl -Gastric Acidifiers
Indication: counter the deficiency of HCl in the GI tract which many destroy unwanted bacterial and viral pathogens that are in foods
  2. Pancrelipase (Lipram, and Protilase)-Digestive enzyme
  3. Pancreatin (Creon, Donnazyme, and Digepepsin)-Digestive enzyme
  4. Ursodiol (Actigall)-hydrocholeretics- Gallstone solubilizing agents
    Requires months of therapy

MOA: slowly solubilizes cholesterol gall stones located in the gall bladder
  5. Cholic Acid (CHOLBAM) -bile acid
indication: treatment of bile acid synthesis disorders due to single enzyme defect

MOA: bile acids facilitate fat digestion and absorption by forming mixed micelles, and facilitate absorption of fat-soluble vitamins in intestine
  6. Obeticholic acid (Ocaliva)- inflammation of bile duct
    Indication: primary biliary cholangitis

MOA: an agonist for FXR, a nuclear receptor expressed in the liver and intestine. FXR is a key regulator of bile acids by suppressing de novo synthesis from cholesterol as well as by increaed transport of bile acids out of hepatocytes
