Laxatives

  1. Disodium phosphate-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  2. Magnesium citrate-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  3. Magnesium hydroxide-Milk of Magnesia-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  4. Magnesium sulfate-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  5. Monosodium phosphate-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  6. Sodium Biphosphate-Saline Type
MOA: Osmosis caused by salt anions and cations draws water into the gut lumen resulting in increased intraluminal pressure---leads to increased peristalsis
  7. Bisacodyl (HALFLYELY)-Stimulant/Irritant
MOA: increased propulsive peristaltic activity by local irritation of the mucosa or selective action on the intramural nerve plexus of the smooth muscle in either/both the small and large intestine

Not recommended as an initial therapy for consitpation
