    In a legally constituted Master Masons Lodge.
  34. How were you prepared
    By being divested of all minerals and metals, neither naked nor clothed, barefoot nor shod, hoodwinked, with a cable-tow thrice about my naked body, aproned as a fellow craft in which condition I was conducted to the door by a brother.
  35. Why was the cable tow thrice about your naked body?
    To signify my duties and obligations became more and more extensive as I advanced in masonry.
  36. How gained you admission?
    Three distinct knocks.
  37. What do they allude?
    The three jewels of a Master Mason which are friendship, morality, and brotherly love.
  38. What was said to you from within?
    Who comes here?
  39. Your answer?
    It is I, Michael Palanza, who has been regularly initiated as an entered apprentice, passed to the degree of fellow craft, and now wishes to receive further light in masonry by being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason.
  40. What were you asked?
    If it was on my own free will and accord if I was worthy and well-qualified, duly and truly prepared, and if I had made suitable proficiencies in the preceding degrees.  All of which being answered in the affirmative I was asked by what further rights and benefits do I expect to obtain for this great and important privilege.

    By the benefit of the pass
  42. Did you receive a pass?
    I did not, my conductor gave it for me
  43. What next?
    I was directed to wait until the worshipful master could be informed of my request and his answer returned.
  44. His answer?
    The pass is right, let him enter in the name of God and be received in due form.
  45. How were you received?
    Upon both points of the compasses extended from my naked left to right breast to teach me that as the vital parts of man are contained within the breast, so are the jewels of a Master Mason contained within the points of the compasses which are friendship, morality, and brotherly love.

    I was conducted thrice about the lodge to the Jr. Warden in the South where the same questions were asked and like answers returned as at the door.

    I was conducted to the Sr. Warden in the West where the same questions were asked and like answers returned as before.

    I was conducted to the worshipful master in the East where the same questions were asked and like answers returned as before.
  49. How did the Worshipful Master dispose of you?
    He ordered that I be reconducted to the Sr. Warden in the West who taught me to advance by three upright regular masonic steps, my feet forming an angle of a square, my body erect to the worshipful master.

    Kneeling on my naked knees, my body erect, my hands resting upon the Holy Bible, Square, and Compasses in which due form I took the most solemn obligation of a Master Mason which is as follows,

    I Michael Palanza, of my own free will and accord, in the presence of almighty God and this worshipful Master Masons Lodge, erected to him and dedicated to the Holy Saints John, do here on solemnly swear that I will always hail, ever conceal, never reveal any of the secrets of the Master Masons degree that have been, maybe now, or at any future time communicated to me or in any way come to my knowledge to any person except it be in a legally constituted Master Masons Lodge or to a known brother master mason.

    Nor unto him or them until by strict trial, dual examination, or lawful Masonic information I shall have found him or them to be as justly entitled to the same as I am about to be.
  52. I furthermore solemnly swear
    I furthermore solemnly swear that I will stand to and abide by all laws, rules, and regulations, of this or any other Master Mason lodge of which I may be a member and will maintain and support all laws, resolutions, and edicts of the grand lodge under which the same may be holding so far as they come to my knowledge.
  53. I furthermore solemnly swear that
    I will do answer make to all signs and summons sent to and received by me from a Master Masons Lodge if within the length of my cable tow.
  54. I furthermore solemnly swear
    that I will aid and assist all distressed brother Master Masons, their widows, and orphans, they making application to me as such and my finding them worthy so far as I can without injury to myself or family.
  55. I furthermore solemnly swear that
    I furthermore solemnly swear that I will keep the secrets of a worthy brother Master Mason communicated to and received by me as such, murder and treason excepted these at my election.
  56. I furthermore solemnly swear
    I furthermore solemnly swear that I will not cheat, wrong, or defraud a brother Master Mason nor speak evil of his good name or that of his family nor permit it to be done by another if within my power to prevent knowing him or them to be such.
  57. I furthermore solemnly swear that
    I will not strike or otherwise offer personal violence to a brother Master Mason except it being in the necessary defense of my person, property, or family knowing him to be such.
