Shoulder region posterior arm posterior shoulders

  1. How many shoulder muscles are there and name them?
    • deltoid
    • supraspinatus
    • infraspinatus
    • subscapularis
    • teres minor
    • teres major
    • There are 6 and they are all attached between the scapula and the humerus
  2. glenoid
    • most lateral angles of the scapula
    • it is a fossa or cavity that houses the glenohumeral joint where the scapula and humerus join together
  3. supraspinous fossa
    • concave head surface of the scapula
    • this is located above the spine of the scapula
  4. deltoid tuberosity
    • a rise in the humerus where the deltoid muscle meets
    • this is oriented laterally on the humerus bone shaft
  5. radial groove
a groove or indent on the posterior surface of the humeral shaft
  6. deltoid
    • innervation: axillary nerve
    • artery:
    • movement:abducts, flexes and extends the arm (humerus)
  7. supraspinatus
    • movement: abducts the humerus
    • innervation: suprscapularis nerve
    • artery:
  8. Tere major
    • innervation :lower subscapular nerve
    • movement: adducts and medially rotates the humerus (arm)
    • artery : posterior circumflex humeral artery, subscapular artery, and circumflex scapular artery
  9. Teres minor
    • innervation: axillary nerve
    • artery:circumflex scapular artery and posterior circumflex humeral artery
    • movement: laterally rotates the humerus
  10. subscapularis
    • innervation:upper and lower subscapular nerve
    • artery:subscapular artery and supra scapular artery
    • movement:medially rotates the humerus
  11. Posterior compartment of the arm
    • Tricepts brachi
    • This has 3 head: the long head, the medial head, and the lateral head. innervation:radial nerve like
    • movement: extends the forearm ( the long head); extends and adducts the arm
  12. what arteries and nerves are deep to the deltoid?
    • posterior circumflex humeral artery and vein
    • axillary nerve
  13. How to distinguish artery, vein, and nerve
    • nerve are flat and usally white in the cadaver
    • veins are carrying the blood and they are usually darker and thicker
    • artery: are rounded and white
  14. Quandrangular space
    • here you can find the axillary nerve and the posteriro circumflex humeral artery and vein
    • This if formed by the
    • - the lateral border of the surgical neck of the humerus
    • -long head of the triceps brachi
    • -teres minor
    • -teres major
  15. What are the rotator cuff muscles?
    • subscapularis
    • supraspinatus
    • infraspinatus
    • teres minor
  16. Trianglular space
    • this is medial to teh quadrangular space
    • it is the composed of
    • the long head of the tricepts brachi
    • teres minor
    • teres major
  17. what is the important feature of the supraspinatus muscles?
When you transect the supraspinatus muscle lateral to the superior angles of the scauplar but medial tot he suprascapular notch you will find the suprascapular artery and nerve. there is also the superior transverse scapular ligament

    • When you identify the ligament, the superior transverse scapular ligament we use the neumonic Navy under Army over to know that the the suprascapular nerve is under and the suprascapular artery is over the superior transverse scapular ligament.
    • The supra scapular nerve and artery also innervate the infraspinatus muscle by traveling arounf the spine of the scapula.
  18. Triangular interval
    • inferior to the quadrangular space
    • bound by the teres major
    • later and long head of the triceps brachii
    • houses the radial nerve and the deep brachial artery or the profunda brachia artery
  19. What is found in the triangular interval
    • here you will find the deep brachial artery and the radial nerve
    • the later and long head of the triceps and the teres major
  20. what is the difference between the triangular interval and the triangular space?
    • triangular space is medial to the quandrangular interval
    • it is also "3T" teres minor and major and long head
    • triangular interval is inferior to the quadrangular interval and it is the 2L : lateral and long of tricept and the teres major
