    Provides adequate make-up water during small break (<1”) LOCA

    • Turbine - Supplied from the ‘C’ Steam line
    • Valves – 10D450
  4. HPCI - Automatic Initiations
    • (LOCA L2)
    • High Drywell Pressure (= 1.68 psig)
    • Low Reactor Level (-38”)
    • Manual Initiation PB (Armed and Pressed)
    • __Initiation signal will clear 20 seconds after condition clears.

    NOTE – HPCI will NOT automatically initiate unless the turbine exhaust valve (HV-F071) is full open.

  6. HPCI - Pump Norm Flow

    On a +54 RPV level trip, FV-4880 closes, (also closes HV-F006, F012 and 8278). The system will reset and re-inject only if level reaches -38” again, or if the +54” is clear & the L8 RESET PB is pressed.
  16. HPCI - Valid Initiation Actuates:
    • Aux Oil Pump Starts (allows opening control valves)
    • Vacuum pump Starts
    • F001 (Steam Line Stop Valve) OPENS (IF F071 open)
    • Once F001 Opens
    • ______Steam line drain pot to Main Condenser AND Cond Pump return to CRW close.
    • . FV4880 (Turbine Stop Valve) OPENS
    • . FV-4879 (Control valve) OPENS
    • . F004 (CST Suction) OPENS (IF F042 not full open)
    • . F007 (Pump Disch Valve), F006 (Disch to ‘A’ Core Spray), HV8278 (Disch to FW ‘A’) OPEN
    • . F059 (Booster Supply to Barometric Condenser) OPENS
    • . F012 (Min Flow Valve) CYCLES as needed
    • . F008 (Full flow test return to CST) CLOSES
    • . F011 (HPCI/RCIC full flow test return to CST) CLOSES
    • . HV-4922 (vacuum pump disch to main condenser) CLOSES

  37. HPCI - TTV/Gov Valve
    Normally Closed, Opens with pressure.
  38. HPCI - Steam Admission Valve Operation
    On initiation, F001 opens.
  39. HPCI - Vac Pump Discharge
    RBVS (Can align to Main Condenser via HV-4922 if NO initiation signal (480 VAC valve, NO auto close)
  40. HPCI - Cond Pump D/ch
    • CRW when F001 full closed
    • Suction line when F001 not full closed
  41. HPCI - Overspeed Trip
    At approximately 5200 RPM, removes hyd oil from the 4880, causing spring tension to close it. When it slows, oil reapplied and 4880 opens if init. signal still present.
  42. HPCI - HPCI Full Flow Test Isolation
    • F008 (HPCI Test Isol) Automatically Closes if:
    • -8278 or F006 not Full closed (Inj to FW & CS) OR
    • -HPCI Initiation Signal
  43. HPCI - HPCI/RCIC Combined Test Isolation Valve
    The Combined Test Return Isolation (F011 HPCI full flow test) valve will close on F031(RCIC) OR F042(HPCI) Full Open OR HPCI initiation.

    Low Suction Pressure (15”HgVac)
  45. HPCI - HPCI Booster Pump Auto Suction Swap
    • . Low CST Level (68,000 gallons)
    • . High Torus level (78.5”)
    • . On a suction swap – Torus Suction fully opens before CST suction closes.
  46. HPCI - Aux Oil Pump Starts/stops
    . Starts whenever HPCI Initiation Signal is present and discharge pressure is <30-40psig. Pump stops once pressure increases above 90-95psig.
  47. HPCI - Aux Oil Pump interlocks
    . Interlocked with F001. Pump will not start if F001 is full closed (this is bypassed after a 12 second TD) to prevent overpressurizing the downstream piping.
  48. HPCI - F001 Closure causes the following:
    • CLOSE
    • . 8278 - Pump discharge to FW
    • . F012 - Pump min flow to Torus
    • . F006 - Pump Discharge to CS
    • OPEN
    • . F028 / F029 - Inboard and outboard steam drain isolations
    • . F026 / F025 - Barometric condenser inboard and outboard discharge to CRW

    Operations below 2150RPM causes excessive check valve chatter and bearing damage.
  50. HPCI – Operation below what flow rate causes
    Operation below 4275 gpm causes flow controller to have flow instabilities.
