    Nerve: dorsal scapular nerve C5
  8. Sternocleidomastoid
    Image Upload 16
Origin: sternum (manubrium), clavicle (medial portion)

Insertion: mastoid process (temporal bone) and superior nuchal line (occipital bone)

Function: prime mover of active head flexion (when act together); rotates head toward opposite side (when act singularly)

    Nerve: accesory nerve XI
  9. Anterior Scalenus
    Image Upload 18
    Origin: transverse processes of C3 - C6

    Insertion: first rib (inner boarder)

Function: elevation of 1st and and bends neck to same side as acting muscle, accesory muscle of respiration

Nerve: cervical spinal nerves, C5, C6
  10. Middle scalene
    Image Upload 20
Origin: transverse processes of lower 6 cervical vertebrae

    Insertion: first rib (upper surface)

Function: elevation of 1st and bends neck to same side as acting muscle, accesory muscle of respiration

Nerve: cervical spinal nerves, C5, C6,
  11. Longus capitis
    Image Upload 22
