  1. What shape is the Earth?
    An oblate spheroid
  2. Name the layers of the Earth (moving towards the centre)
    • Crust
    • Mantle (upper semi-molten, lower solid)
    • Outer core (mainly liquid iron)
    • Inner core (solid - due to high pressure)
  3. Name the vertical lines that go from pole to pole on a globe
    Lines of longitude
  4. Name the horizontal lines that go around the Earth on a globe
    Lines of latuitude
  5. Name the five lines that go around the Earth (starting with the most northerly)
    • Arctic Circle
    • Tropic of Cancer
    • Equator
    • Tropic of Capricorn
    • Antarctic Circle
  6. How much is the Earth's axis tilted?
    23.5 degrees (from vertical)
  7. Why is the sky blue?
