    • The Great Basin is created due to the Rain shadow caused by the Pacific Range and Rockies.  It has a desert climate.
    • The Rockies block humid, mid-continental air.
    • Dry wind, called chinook, melt snow on the eastern Rockies.
  21. What effect do the Rocky Mountains have on the vegetation of the US and Canada?
    The high elevation causes a highland climate where coniferous forests, lichens, and mosses grow.
  22. What are Steppe Climates?
    Dry climates in the rain shadows of Pacific Ranges and the Rockies.  Transition between dry desert and a humid interior are present.
  23. What is a timberline?
    The elevation above which trees do not grow.
  24. What is Chinook?
    Warm Dry wind blowing down the east side of the Rockies.
  25. Be able to track the incidences of hurricanes and the impact on the US from 2005 until today and draw a chart or graph to show your findings.
