NPU1101 - ECU Vital Signs

  1. Body Temperature range
    Normal-approx 36.0ºC to 37.5ºC

    • Axilla temperature usually 0.5°C lower than oral
    • Rectal temperature usually 0.5°C higher than oral
  2. Heart Rate (HR) / Pulse Rate
    Rate: number of beats

    • Adult - 60-100 (Bradycardia < 60 / Tachycardia > 100)
    • Child - 75-100
    • Infant - 120-160
  3. Respiratory Rate (RR)
    Normal respiratory rate is 12 – 20 per minute

    • Count rate for a full 60 seconds
    • Note pattern: irregular or abnormal
    • Note depth: shallow, normal, deep
    • Note audibility:  silent and effortless
  4. Pulse Oximetry Measurement (SpO2)
    Normal range = > 94% (95% -100%)
  5. Blood Pressure (BP) - Systolic
    Normal Ranges

    Systolic: 100 - 140 mmHg

    • Hypertension (grade 1-3)
    • Systolic > 140 mmHg
    • Diastolic > 80 mmHg

    • Hypotension
    • Systolic < 100 mmHg

    Inflate cuff to 30mmHg above preliminary measurement
  6. Blood Pressure (BP) - Diastolic
    Diastolic: < 80 mmHg

    • Hypertension (grade 1-3)
    • Systolic > 140 mmHg
    • Diastolic > 80 mmHg

    Inflate cuff to 30mmHg above preliminary measurement
