    when the egg implants somewhere other than the uterine wall
  2. when does a ectopic pregnancy present?
    around 6-8 weeks gestation
  3. what is usually missed in the women?
    usually only one missed period
  4. what are the risks factors?
    • previous 
    • previous surgery on the uterine tube 
    • an intra uterine contraceptive device fitted
    • sterilisation or reversal of sterilisation 
    • endometriosis 
    • previous infections (pelvis inflammatory disease, chlamydia, gonorrhoea)
  5. what are the typical signs of an ectopic preg?
    • acute localised, lower abdominal pain 
    • vaginal bleeding or spotting- may present as brownish discharge 
    • amenorrhoea 
    • signs of blood loss within the abdomen with tachycardia and skin coolness
  6. what are the atypical signs of a ectopic preg?
    • shoulder tip pain 
    • nausea, vomiting and unusual bowel symptoms 
    • unexplained dizziness and fainting
  7. what pain relief can be given to a women with a ? ectopic preg?
    • paracetamol
