    malpresentation as the presenting part at the introitus is not the vertex of the head
  2. what is the presenting part?
    • either the fetal buttocks or feet 
    • a longitudinal lie
  3. what are the 4 types of breech?
    • frank 
    • complete 
    • footling 
    • knee
  4. what are footling and kneeling breeches classed as?
    incomplete breech
  5. what breeches will not deliver and need to be transferred to obstetric unit?
    incomplete breech- footling and kneeing
  6. what are the risk factors?
    • prematurity 
    • previous breech 
    • low lying placenta/ praevia
    • pelvic masses/ abnormally shaped uterus 
    • twins or other multiples 
    • polyhydramnios/ oligohydramnios
    • fetal abnormalities 
    • grand multiparity
  7. what are the S and S?
    • may see feet or buttocks at the introitus
    • the genitals may look bruised and swollen
    • meconium may be visible 
    • labour will progress as normal 
    • cord prolapse is more common with breech presentation
  8. what position should the mother be in to give birth on the ambulance?
    sitting on the edge of the trolley
