synovial joints

the adjacent bones are united by cartilage (tough but flexible type connective tissue) 

lack a joint cavity, bones are joined together by either hyaline cartilage (primary, synchondrosis; sometimes between ossification centres - this may ossify w/ age) or fibrocartilage (secondary, symphysis)

• growth plates
• in spine or ribs 
• (allow only a little movement)

(often at midline, very strong but still allow limited movement)

manubriosternal joint (between the manubrium and the sternum), intervertebral discs (intervertebral disc), and the pubic symphysis.
