  1. definition: combustible
    material that will ignite and burn, as a flme or glow, in a fire.
  2. definition: fire assembly
    an assembly of a fire door, fire window, or fire damper, including all req'd anchorage, frames, sills and hardware
  3. definition: fire barrier
    fire-resistance-rated vertical or horizontal assembly (with protected openings) designed to restrict the spread of fire
  4. definition: fire partition
    • fire-resistive component used to sperate dwelling units in R-2 const, guest rooms in R-1 const, and tenant spaces in covered malls, also used on corridor walls
    • generally req'd to have min 1HR rating

    • as an adjective, it should only be used as a modifier with defined compund terms

    • applies to materials as well as combinations of components

    the propagation of flame over a surface

    • value assigned to a material tested in accordance

    capable of burning with a flame and subject to easy ignition and rapid flaming combustion
  14. definition: non-combustible
    • material that will not ignite and burn in a flame or fire
    • only classified as such if in accordance with:
    • ASTM E136, Standard Test Method for Behavior of Materials in a Vertical Tube Furnace at 750oC
    • or if is has a structural base of non-combustible material with a surfacing not more than 1/8" thick that has a flame-spread index no greater than 50
