anatomy unit 2

  1. shin splints, tear between periosteum and bone, from overtraining/poor shoes/surface change
Medial Tibialis Stress Syndrome/Posterior Tibialis Stress
  2. increased pressure in limited space, compromised circulation and function, muscle becomes too big for sheath surrounding it which causes pain
    anterior compartment syndrome
  3. painful, involuntary contraction (can’t control), from dehydration/fatigue/lack of flexibility
    muscle cramps
  4. acute: trauma, improper lift, over stretch, over stress; chronic: overuse, repetitive movement
    muscle strains
  5. strain (over use)

tendonitis (inflammation of tendon, overuse, chronic)

pump bump (inflammation of 2 bursa near tendon)

    rupture (complete disruption, grade 3)
    achilles injuries
  6. overuse injuries ignored, extreme point tenderness, especially with contraction
    stress fractures
  7. tear in medial head of gastrocnemius
    tennis leg
  8. death of tissue due to low blood supply
    ischemia
  9. flat footed, low arch, wide foot, pronated
pes planus (feet are PLANted to the ground)
  10. high arch, narrow foot
    pes cavus
  11. weakening of arch, muscle cramp doesn’t go away (main arch- longitudinal arch)
    medial arch pain
  12. toes flexed into deformity, claw toe, result of pes cavus
    hammer toe
  13. creates L shape in hinge joint
    hallux valgus/bunion
  14. injury to extensor hallucis muscle, jammed into ground
    turf toe
  15. ligaments over extended
    arch sprains
  16. medial arch pain, muscle cramp doesn’t go away, over weight, stretch to relax
    plantar faciitis
  17. sharp inversion and plantarflexion, base of 5th metatarsal
    jones fracture
  18. pain to hell and arch, when get out of bed
    heel spur
  19. excess external rotation of tibia
    duck footed
  20. excess internal rotation of tibia
    pigeon toed
