  3. What is cold shock and stages of immersion?
    Treatment?
    Sudden immersion in water < 15C

    • 1. Cold shock
    • Heart attack/stroke/inhaling water
    • 2. Muscle and nerve cooling - Weakness
    • 3. Hypothermia

    • Remove from water
    • DRABC
    • Monitor
  4. What Secondary Drowning?
    Symptoms and care?
    Water on lungs from ingres

    • Shortness of breath
    • Rapid shallow breathing
    • Coughing and tight chest
    • Tired/drowsy/confused
    • Present normally within 24 hrs

    Monitor constantly. Any symptoms, evacuate.
  5. Seasickness can lead to dehydration. What are the symptoms of dehydration?
    • Dizzy and tired
    • Headache
    • Dark urine
    • Less frequent passing of urine.

    Rehydrate little and often
  6. CPR Drill?
    • Heal of hand press breastbone x30 at 100-120bpm
    • Pinch nose, 2 breaths till chest rises
    • Do not stop

    If drowning suspected, start with 5 breaths
  7. How to treat shock?
    • Elevate legs
    • Keep warm, but not overheated
    • No drink, food or smoking
    • Loosen clothing
    • Monitor breathing
    • Prepare to resuscitate
  8. Medevac from Helicopter drill
    • 1. Get casualty ready
    • 2. Brief crew
    • 3. Life Jackets
    • 4. Clear deck (flags danbouy etc)
    • 5. Start engine
    • 6. Head sail away and main if requested
    • 7. Orange smoke
    • 8. Follow heading and speed give by pilot (40 degs off wind). Steady speed and course
    • 9. Allow hi-line to hit water
    • 10. Take hi-line to boat (DO NOT TIE ON)
    • 11. Pull hi-line in/out to ease passage of winchman to boat
