-5th crania nerve=motor and sensory

S/S
-sudden severe stabbing unilateral sensation of CN V
-facial pain on one side
-twitching
-frequent blinking

-hot/cold air
-talking
-brushing teeth
-yawning'

-glycerol rhizotomy(injection into CN V)(percutaneous)
-microvascular decompression(repositioning blood vessles, crani,)

-tegretol and dilantin
bells palsy is
-inflammation CN VII(facial)
-paralysis on one side of face
-herpes virus
bells palsy recovery
most pt will make a full recovery but can take up to 6 months
bells palsy
treatment
acyclovir
corticosteroids
bells palsy syndrom
inability to close the eyelid with an upward movement of the eyeball when closure is attempted
