  1. canon
    A collection of works that are considered to be somehow central to a cultural establishment.
  2. virtuoso
    A performer with extraordinary musical and mechanical ability on a particular instrument.
  3. transcription
    A piece of music, originally composed for an instrument or collection of instruments, which has been adapted for another instrument or collection of instruments.
  4. reification
    The act of making something intangible into something tangible. Making something concrete.
  5. aleatoric music
    music composed by means which, at least in part, involve the use of chance
  6. indeterminacy
    With respect to musical performance, aspects of a performance which are not determined prior to the act of performing. Elements in which the performer has choice during the act of performing.
  7. historically informed performance practice
    Performances that aim to achieve the impact of a piece of music from the past by employing instruments and techniques known or thought to have been used in performances of the piece of music around the time it was originally composed.
