What is speed?
This is the distance an object travels in a given time
State the SI unit for speed
Metres per second (m/s)
What is the equation for speed?
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
What is velocity?
This is the speed of an object and the direction it is travelling in eg. 100 km/h south
What is the equation for velocity?
Velocity = Displacement (metres) ÷ Time Taken (second)
What is acceleration?
This is when there is a change in speed over a given period of time
State the SI unit for acceleration
m/s
2
What is the equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = Change in speed ÷ Time taken
What are scalar quantities?
These have a magnitude (size) and do not take place in any direction eg. distance, speed and time
What are vector quantities?
These have both magnitude and direction eg. velocity
